This topic deserves no explanation, but it may merit some
discussion. Here we can continue to question the integrity of Thomas’ methods
of instruction, Erica’s parenting and Lily’s friendship. Was Nina corrupted by
the world or did she discover herself? Were the influences of the key players
in her life guiding her toward self-destruction or perfection? Is the message
of the film a just one? Is it necessary to integrate some form of destruction
into one’s life in order to “live a little?”
